Expectations
‘Sixth-form students are good ambassadors for the school and act as positive role models for younger pupils. They are well prepared for their next steps after leaving sixth form. A significant proportion of pupils receive support that enables them to go to university. Sixth-form students benefit from a well-considered and balanced curriculum that meets their needs and supports their future aspirations.’
(Ofsted 2023)
We welcome students into our Sixth Form who are committed to their studies and want to achieve. Our personalised, yet traditional, curriculum ensures that students are challenged and engaged.
Our core drivers of outcomes, values and choices are at the heart of our daily actions and interactions. Our aim is simple; by rigorously instilling our values, students achieve positive outcomes enabling them to make considered life choices which open doors to the opportunities they deserve. We pride ourselves on building strong relationships based on mutual respect, at all levels. Our relentless desire to deliver high quality teaching and pastoral support combined with an array of opportunities both inside and outside of the classroom, enables our students to develop the knowledge, skills and charter to lead successful, fulfilling lives.
We create a safe and happy environment where students are nurtured academically, socially and emotionally so that they are ready to tackle academic challenges and have the values to become responsible members of our society.
Students are expected to work hard and meet deadlines so they can maximise their achievement in their subjects. If students do not meet deadlines, sanctions will take place as per the Academy policy. In order to maximise their achievement, students are expected to:
- Be prepared, equipped and organised for lessons
- Work hard at all the subjects they study
- Complete all homework and coursework on time and to the best of their ability
- Use a diary to keep organised and manage deadlines
- Make effective use of private study time
Conduct
Sixth Form students are expected to behave in a mature and responsible way both in lessons, around the Academy site and within the community. Students are reminded that they are now in a position of responsibility and that they should set an example to younger students in school. The Academy will not tolerate poor, childish behaviour from Sixth Form students. The Academy Behaviour Policy and the associated sanctions applies to all Sixth Form students.
Mobile phones are ONLY to be use in the Sixth Form Centre for educational purposes. Students are not permitted to use them elsewhere in the Academy.
Use of Non-Contacts
Students study fewer subjects in Sixth Form but the workload will be greater than any other course studied. Students are expected to meet all deadlines and complete work to the best of their ability. Independent learning and study is essential to being a successful Sixth Form student. To encourage independent learning, students have ‘non-contact’ lessons where students are to work independently, students must use this time productively. Students who put in more effort to consolidate their learning outside of lessons make more progress.
